Cognitive Psychology Lecture 02 - Part 2 (Psychophysics) Flashcards
What is the concept of psychophysics?
Psychophysics, study of quantitative relations between psychological events and physical events or, more specifically, between sensations and the stimuli that produce them.
What does absolute threshold mean?
An absolute threshold is the smallest amount of stimulation needed for a person to detect that stimulus 50% of the time. This can be applied to all our senses: The minimum intensity of light we can see. The lowest volume of a sound we can hear.
What is the relative threshold?
The relative threshold method calculates C rt values for each individual amplification curve, and no information is needed from the other curves. The amplification curve is first set to a relative scale by setting the minimum relative fluorescence value to 0 and the maximum value to 1.
What is Webers Law?
What does Weber’s law mean in psychology?
What are thresholds in marketing?
The differential threshold in marketing is the point at which customers notice changes in price, features or other aspects of your product or service. There will be times when a business wants consumers to notice a change in what they offer, while other times, a company is trying to sneak something by its customers.
What is the scaling approach?
In the social sciences, scaling is the process of measuring or ordering entities with respect to quantitative attributes or traits. For example, a scaling technique might involve estimating individuals’ levels of extraversion, or the perceived quality of products.
