Why do we need a code of ethics and how would you embed it on your LPA?
GOLD
The code of ethics was introduced in ** by the CoP.
- George Floyd - corruption
Provides a framework for policing
- To assist in ethical decision making
- To set out a clear standard to all staff
- To show what good policing looks like
- To restore public confidence
The code mentions we all have a responsibility to adhere to the COE regardless of rank. As a Chief Inspector, i have a responsibility to embed the Code of Ethics in my command.
SILVER
- Where are we now? Complaints
- high risk staff
- create a culture of challenge both publicly and privately
- support supervisors
- peer review
- monitor through Endeavour - feedback
BRONZE
I have embedded the COE on my LPA by:
- Ethics panel
- 121’s with new staff
- monitoring complaints as part of performance meetings
- lead by example - my behaviour and language has an impact
- Performance measures encourages dishonesty - expectations
- high risk staff
- Kev - challenged
- emotional wellbeing - looked after valued staff are more likely to act with integrity
