CNV2 Flashcards
describe the course of CNV3 (mandibular division)
passes through foramen ovale and into infraremporal fossa where it gives several branches
where does foramen ovale open?
directly into external base of cranium
what are the boundaries of the infratemporal fossa?
lateral: ramus of mandible
medial: lateral pterygoid plate of sphenoid bone
anterior: posterior aspect of maxilla
posterior: tympanic plate, mastoid & styloid processes
superior: infratemporal crest of sphenoid bone
inferior: angle of mandible
what is the skin over angle of mandible supplied by?
cervical plexus with great auricular nerve
what are the main branches of cnv3?
auriculotemporal buccal mental lingual muscular
what are the components of cnv3 main trunk? (before division)
meningeal branch
branch to tensor tympani
branch to tensor veli palatini
nerve to medial pterygoid
what nerve in the main trunk is not motor?
meningeal nerve
-sensory to dura mater
what are the component of the anterior trunk?
deep temporal nerves
nerve to lateral pterygoid
buccal nerve
masseteric nerve
what nerve in the anterior trunk is sensory?
buccal
what are the components of the posterior trunk?
auriculotemporal nerve
inferior alveolar nerve
lingual nerve
which nerve in the posterior trunk is mixed? (sensory & motor)
inferior alveolar
which parts of the oral cavity does cnv3 supply?
general sensation to the floor of the mouth, lower teeth, gums, anterior 2/3 of tongue via lingual nerve
what nerve supplies the cheek and lateral gum?
buccal nerve
what nerve supplies the lower teeth?
inferior alveolar and branch: incisive nerve
what nerve supplies the skin of chin and lower lip?
inferior alveolar as mental nerve
