Closed Guard Posture Breaks Flashcards
Break posture from the bottom position
Elbow Grind Defense 4
Situation: uke has good posture and is elbow grinding
Problem: makes it more difficult to break his posture
Solution: trap one of his wrists, 2 on 1 behind his tricep, go for wrist lock or break posture
Collar Choke Posture Break
right hand grabs right collar, left arm goes behind his elbow and grabs lapel, pull up with legs when he shifts his base, break posture
Key Concepts
toes hook edge of other foot, lift hips off the ground, get knees high on his torso, pinch knees, curl heels inward, use one hand for posture control (grip on his collar), use other hand for level control (cuff grip on his sleeve), use legs, get an overhook or underhook with the lever side
Cuff Grip
grab with pointer and thumb, roll up sleeve, touch knuckles to his forearm for control
Feet detail
When in closed guard, the toes of one foot should “gable grip” the edge of the other foot
Lapel Grip
turn lapel inwards (or outward for same-side grip) and hook four fingers in
Piston Grip
use this for gi’s with a lot of sleeve material and keep palm connected to his forearm to reduce his ability to rotate his wrists
Elbow Grind Defense 1
Situation: uke tucks both elbows in and elbow grinds
Problem: attempting to pry my closed guard open
Solution: grip collar and break his cog with my legs while pulling down on his collar
Elbow Grind Defense 2
Situation: uke grinds both elbows and grips hip
Problem: attempting to pry my closed guard open
Solution: grab one of his triceps above his elbow, oompa while pulling his elbow away, one hand grips his tricep from the top, other arm underhooks, gable grip, start shoulder clamp attack
