Clinical Chemistry Flashcards
What hppens if there’s a chemical imbalance
All chemicals are to be even, if there’s an imbalance then that triggers reaction
What is a qualitative observation?
Analyzes lack of substance
What is a quantitative obsevation?
Amount of a substance
What is a routine test?
frequent needed tests (i.e: glucose)
What is a special test?
might be occasionally performed (i.e: hormones)
Analyites Tested
Protiens (albumins and gloulins)
Electrolytes (cations+anions)
Mineral Metabolism (calcium, iron , phosphorus)
Uric acid, creatine, BUN, GFR
Biliruban, liver enzymes (i.e: ALT, AST, ALP, GGT)
Cardiac Markers (CK, troponins, BND)
Lipid Metabolism (LDL, HDL)
Thyroid Hormones (T3, T4)
What are albumins
made in liver; serve as transport protien and helps with fluid balance
What is the reference range
3.8-5g/dL
What does a lack of albumins lead to?
Hypoalbuminemia
What are globulins
Antiobdies, blood coagulation protiens, enzymes, hemoglobin; heterogenous molecules
What is reference range
6-8 g/dL
What is albumin/Globulin ratio
60% to 40%
What are electrolytes
referes to cation sodium and potassium and anion chlordie and bicarbonate. electrolytes impact pH and heart & muscle function
Sodium reference range
(135-148 mmol/L)
Potassium ref range
3.5-5.5 mmol/L
