Nerves
Can cause pain: sharp, shooting, tingling, electric, or hot.
Blood Vessels
Can block circulation: ranging from numbness to clots
Organs
A few can be compressed
Lymph nodes
Inflamed lymph nodes indicated client may be fighting an infection
Eyes
Hard contact lenses could scratch the sclera.
Keep a bottle of distilled water and a lens case for hospitality.
Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)
Be aware of this area, as trigeminal and facial nerves pass through here, and it can be painful.
Anterior Triangle of the Neck:
- Carotid artery. Can cause dizziness. Potential for atherosclerotic plaque dislodgement for patients with cardiovascular issues.
- Jugular vein. Lies under the carotid artery.
- Trachea. Ouch
- Thyroid Cartlidge/gland
- Brachial plexus. Spinal nerves C5-T1. Can be pressed into bones.
Xiphoid process
Dont break it
Floating Ribs
Tickle or pain
Liver
Can be enlarged due to hepatitis, jaundice, cirrhosis, etc
Ovaries
Shouldn’t be accessible, but endometriosis, cyst, etc can move them
Kidneys
Ribs only partially protect them. Right sits a lil’ lower than the left. Can be bruised with vigorous tapotement.
Other obvious randos: veins, colon, spinous processes, popliteal fossa.
Just dont…purposefully hurt your client. Be a good human.
