What is the meaning of a clause?
It’s a part of a sentence (can be a whole sentence) with a verb in it
What is one thing that’s the same thing as a clause?
Simple sentences=clause
What’s the meaning of a main clause?
It can stand on its own
What’s the meaning of a co-ordinate clause?
2 or more parts of an independent clause that are joined up by and,but,or(co-ordinating conjunction)
What is a subordinate clause?
A clause that can’t stand on its own, e.g “when it rang” instead of “she picked up the phone when it rang”
What is an infinitive clause?
It has the infinitive “to” and a verb and contains object(s), compliment(s)
What is the meaning of a participle clause?
A tenseless(non finite) clause that can contain present participles, past participles and perfect participles (have gone, having read,having walked)
What is the meaning of an adverbial clause?
a subordinating clause that modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb and it tells you: why,when,where,how,to what extent.Begins with an adverb or prepositional phrase and can be moved around or removed from the sentence
