classical conditioning Flashcards
what is classical conditioning?
a learning process that occurs when two stimuli are repeatedly paired
what is excitatory learning?
direct classical conditioning in which a conditioned stimulus predicts the PRESENCE of the unconditioned stimulus
- the conditioned stimulus signals the unconditioned stimulus will be present
what is extinction?
fading of a non-reinforced conditioned response over time
what is inhibitory learning?
when the conditioned stimulus predicts the ABSENCE of the unconditioned stimulus
what is generalisation?
the tendency to respond in the same way to different but similar stimuli
how are the principles of classical conditioning applied to humans?
drug seeking behaviour
