biological function of learning Flashcards
animal cognition research
animal cognition refers to a subset of processes that define and operate on the relations between environment and behaviour
- animal cognition research is the study of how animals learn, behave, and think often from a comparative perspective
reasons to study animal cognition
- relevance to humans
- animale welfare
- inferences about evolutions
why is there a need for control in the research of animal cognition?
due to the CLEVER HANS EFFECT (demand characteristics)
- individuals behaviour can be influenced by unintentional curing on the part of a questioner/experimenter
- use the DOUBLE BLIND tests
conditioning theory of tolerance
- exposure to drugs causes perturbation (anxiety/mental uneasiness)
- the compensatory response can be controlled by the cues present during the drug exposure
what is insight learning?
involves situations that are perceived by a learner, the learner tries to see and judge the relationship between various factors involved in the situation
- KOHLER observed that the chimps appeared to have an insight into the problem before solving it
