- because … (a clear statement to explain why you react this way)

Q
‘sandwiching’:
A
- sometimes when we need to say difficult things we can find positive comments to ‘sandwich’ the difficult comment
- it is easier to embrace constructive feedback if we can feel good about some aspects of our performance and work to improve it rather than feeling judged
9
Q
invite comments from the receiver
A
- since feedback comes from your perspective. keep in mind how others might feel.
- people need time to grasp what you are saying. check out reactions “could you tell me..” “what do you think”

- listen carefully without interruption
- stay calm and cordial
- evaluate what is being said with an open mind and try to understand it
- seek examples of the behaviour to help you understand
- paraphrase what you’ve heard
- seek suggestions for future actions
- thank the person for giving the feedback
- you determine what you take from the feedback and how you might modify your behaviour
