Class 2 - Self Awareness/Concept Flashcards
values
based on family, culture, life experience
-change as we mature in our ability to think critically, logically and morally
self awareness
knowing oneself, including ones traits, feelings and behaviours. “linear” because you can list it.
self concept
the composite of ideas, feelings and attitudes that a person has about his/her own identity, worth, capabilities and limitations. “how you feel about the list”
Johari window “facade”
known only to myself. represent info, feelings, etc. anything that a person knows about themselves, but which is not revealed or that we hide from others. includes sensitivities, fears, hidden agendas, manipulative intentions and secrets. decreasing the facade area through self disclosure can help enlarge the arena
johari window ‘unknown’
known to no one. attitudes, behaviours, emotions, experience, feelings, knowledge, skills, views, etc that no one (person or others) is aware of. Self discovery can help uncover info here (counselling, observations by others, group work can also be helpful to increase awareness)
johari window ‘arena’
known to all. information about the person - attitudes, behaviour, emotions, experience, feelings, knowledge, skills, views, etc. we can increase the size of arena by giving and receiving feedback and self disclosure
johari window ‘blind spot’
known to others. ignorance about ourselves, or issues which we are deluded about, but others can see. we can reduce this area by asking for feedback from others, which helps increase the open area (increased self awareness).
