- End stage chronic liver disease which results in irreversible liver damage

Causes:
- Cryptogenic (unknown cause) – most common
- Alcohol
- Autoimmune liver disease (3)
- Hepatitis B (chronic)
- Hepatitis C (chronic)
- Haemochromatosis (genetic)
- Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency
- Wilson’s disease
- Obesity (Diabetes mellitus)
- Drugs (amiodarone, methotrexate – MXT)
- Immune mediated liver disease

Pathology: State the pathology that goes on in the liver during cirrhosis

- Replacement of normal liver tissue to nodules of hepatocytes and fibrous tissue
