Circulatory System Flashcards
Main functions of the circulatory System?
To transport oxygen nutrients, hormones, and wastes
What does the Circulatory System include?
Heart, blood, and blood vessels
Heart
- Divided into four chambers
-Left and right ATRIA
Left and right VENTRICLES
Atria
Plural of atrium
Right side of the heart
- Atrium then the ventricle
-Pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs so that the blood can pick up oxygen
The left side of the heart
-Atrium then the ventricle
- Receives the blood from the lungs then pumps the oxygenated blood through the AORTA to the rest of the body
Ventricles
The bottom cavity of the heart
Aorta
the largest artery of the body and carries blood from the heart to the circulatory system
Capillaries
blood vessels that exist throughout your body. They transport blood, nutrients and oxygen to cells in your organs and body systems. Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels in your vascular system.
Diffusion
The process of spreading the concentration in an area
Blood vessels ( Arteries)
Carry blood away from the heart
Blood Vessels ( Veins)
carry blood from the body back into the heart.
How many chambers are in the heart?
4 chambers
How many atria does the heart have?
2 Atria
Name the flow of oxygen/ blood in order
LUNG–LEFT ATRIUM–LEFT VENTRICLE–AORTA–BODY–DEOXYGENATED BLOOD AT BODY CAPILLIERES GOES BACK THROUGH VENA CAVA–RIGHT ATRIUM–RIGHT VENTRICLE– DEOXY. BLOOD TO LUNGS–DEOXY TURNS TO OXY–CONVERTED TO BLOOD AT LUNG CAPILLARIES
