What is the average resting rate of the human heart in beats per minute?
72 per minute
Label the different parts of the heart.
On worksheet
A- Left Ventricle B- Bicuspid Valve C-Left Atrium D- Aorta E- Pulmonary Artery F- Vena Cava
Where does the Pulmonary Artery carry blood?
Into the lungs
What is the function of the Bicuspid Valve?
Prevents the backflow of blood
Which side has oxygenated blood, and which has deoxygenated blood?
Left is oxygenated, Right deoxygenated.
LORD
Name the liquid part of blood.
Plasma
Name two substances that are dissolved in the liquid part of the blood.
Glucose, Carbon dioxide.
Amino acids, minerals, vitamins, urea, hormones.
State one function of the liquid part of the blood
Transports dissolved materials
Blood contains red cells and white cells. Give a function for each.
Red- Transports oxygen
White- Fights infection
Name two common blood grouping systems.
O & B
What is the function of valves in veins?
Prevents blood from backflowing.
Why are valves not needed in arteries?
Because the pressure of the blood in the arteries is so strong it is only able to travel in one direction.
Which has a bigger lumen, an artery or vein?
Veins
The wall of capillaries is only one cell thick. How is this related to their function?
To allow gas exchange.
What is a pulse?
The expansion and contraction of arteries.
