Circulatory Shock Flashcards
What is the main regulator of fat metabolism?
Pyruvate dehydrogenase
What is circulatory shock?
Inadequate blood flow throughout the body, to the extent that the body tissues are damaged
What are the four types of shock?
Distributive
Hypovolemic
Cardiogenic
Obstructive
What causes distributive shock?
Vasodilation
What causes hypovolemic shock?
Dehydration
Hemorrhage
What causes cardiogenic shock?
Heart damaged where it cannot supply the body with enough blood
What causes obstructive shock?
Physical obstruction of great vessels
Pneumothorax
Cardiac tamponade
What is the critical level for survival in regard to blood loss?
35-45% blood loss
MAP below 45mm Hg
What four receptors are triggered in blood loss?
High-pressure baroreceptors
Low-pressure baroreceptors
Peripheral chemoreceptors
Central chemoreceptors
What criteria should be met for shock to be diagnosed?
HR greater than 100
Resp. Rate greater than 20
Urine output less than .5 mL/kg/hr
Arterial hypotension less than 90 mmHg
What is neurogenic shock?
Dilatation due to loss of ANS control of vsm
In septic shock, what causes vasodilation?
An increase in nitric oxide release
What causes anaphylaxis?
An antigen-antibody reaction which causes the release of histamine from basophils and mast cells
Cardiogenic shock produces the same circulatory and metabolic alterations as what?
Hypovolemic (hemorrhagic) shock
What changes occur in energy metabolism with severe hemorrhaging?
Increase in plasma lactate
Decrease in myocardial ATP and CP
Decrease in plasma pH
