Chronic Inflammation Flashcards
What are the main cells of chronic inflammation
Macrophages
Lymphocytes
What can cause chronic inflammation
Acute inflammation
Autoimmune condition
Viral causes
What is the definition of chronic inflammation
Inflammation that would occur with fibrosis
Showing that would have the repair and the scar formation
What are the types of giant cells (macrophages)
Toutons - for fatty necrosis, foamy cytoplasm
Langhans - for TB, cells would have a horse shoe shape
Foreign body cells- foreign body’s, the cells would all be concentrated in the centre
What types of interleukin do the macrophages make
IL-10
Would be anti inflammatory
What are the other cells that would be present in chronic inflammation
Plasma cells
Eosinophils- parasites, asthma and some tumours
Fibroblasts and myofibroblasts
What are the types of cells in Rheumatoid arthritis
Synovial fibroblasts
Plasma cells
What are the main type of cells in chronic gastritis
Lymphocytes
What is the main cell in leishmaniasis
Macrophages
What is chronic cholecystitis
Inflammation of the gall bladder
Fibrosis of the walls
Leads to formation of the gall stones
What is the difference between ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease
Crohns - transmural (strictures-narrowing intestine and fistulae-connection of the epithelium of two organs)
Colitis - superficial so would have diarrhoea and bleeding, ulcers can be from H.pylori
What causes cirrhosis of the liver
Chronic inflammation and the fibrosis
What effect can chronic inflammation have on the immune system
Constant stimulation
Causes autoimmune issues
Graves’ disease of the thyroid for example
What can cause a granuloma
Hypersensitivity
Constant antigen stimulation
Infection
Irritating foreign material
What is a sarcoidosis
Non-caseating granulomas
Do not lead to necrosis
