Chromosomal Inheritance Flashcards
What do females and males need for a recessive X-linked trait to be expressed?
Females need two copies of the allele (homozygous) and males need only one copy of the allele (hemizygous)
Explain why linked genes are inherited together.
Genes located near each other on same chromosome tend to be inherited together.
What results from fertilization of gametes in which nondisjunction occurred? What is it?
Aneuploidy, it is when offspring have an abnormal number of a particular chromosome
What is the difference between monosomic zygote and trisomic zygote?
Monosomic zygote has only one copy of a particular chromosome and trisomic zygote has three copies of a particular chromosome.
What is the klinefelter syndrome?
It is the result of an extra X chromosome in males, producing XXY individuals
What does monosomy X (turner syndrome) produce?
X0 females, who are sterile
