Liturgical Worship
A church service which follows a set structure or ritual
Non-Liturgical Worship
A church service which does not follow a set text or ritual, eg. Praying at home
Informal Worship
Focus on the adoration of God, and often carried out in AUDITORIUMS and NOT CHURCHES
Private Worship
Informal and often takes place at home, eg. Saying grace at a meal
What is the Lords Prayer?
The words Jesus used when he told his disciples to pray
- It accepts God as HOLY
- Tells not to SIN
What are sacraments?
An outward sign of inward blessing, which can be received at important ceremonies.
Eg. Baptism, Eucharist, anointing of the sick
Baptism
A sacrament which brings Christians closer to God
Infant Baptism beliefs
- Some believe it makes a Christian part of God’s family
- Orthadox Christians believe the baby is to be FULLY IMMERSED
- Baptist and Pentecostal Christians believe baptism is to be done as an adult
Eucharist / Holy Communion
Not all Christians celebrate this sacrament
- Commemorates the last supper
- Most important part is the bread and wine
— Some interpret bread and wine as Jesus’ blood, some believe it more metaphorically as a symbol of Jesus’ death
Lourdes
A famous pilgrimage site where waters have healing powers.
Where VIRGIN MARY was sighted.
Water is often taken home by pilgrims.
Iona
An island in Scotland where Pilgrims often visit
Christians believe having their lives redirected to Iona allows them to learn something about themselves
