CHRIST'S NEW COMMANDMENT Flashcards
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord.” This is also an amplification of the
First Commandment
Jesus says:
“You have heard that it was said to the men of old, “You shall not swear falsely”…But I say to you: ‘Do not swear at all’” (Matthew 5:33-34).
second Commandment
As to “honoring the Sabbath, as articulated in the_____ Commandment Jesus says: “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath; so the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27-28). Christ declares the Sabbath for doing good rather than harm, for saving life rather than killing.
Third commandment
As to the_____ Jesus says to his disciples: “Love one another even I have loved you”
Fourth Commandment
Regarding the ______Jesus says:
You have heard that it was said to the man of old, Y’ ou shall not kill: and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment. But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment”
Fifth Commandment
Regarding the _______Jesus says:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery?’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with his heart” (Matthew 5:27-28).
Sixth Commandment
Related to the ______Jesus blessed Zacchaeus for his pledge: “If I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold” (Luke 19:8) He warns people against avaricious desires for, and disproportionate attachment to material things: “You cannot serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24; Luke 16:13).
Seventh Commandment
As to the_______, Jesus says, “It was said to the men of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn’ (Matthew 5:33). He emphasizes that truthfulness must be the virtue of his disciples, that those who follow him must live in truth
Eighth Commandment
Regarding the______, Jesus urges His disciples to purify their hearts and practice temperance. He says: “Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication” (Matthew 15:19). He also says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God”
Ninth Commandment
Regarding the _______ Jesus warns his disciples to focus their attention to the real treasure. He cautioned them not to “absolutize” something which is relative. He says “For where your treasure is there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21). Jesus enjoins his disciples to prefer him to everything and everyone, and bids them to renounce all that they have for his sake and for the sake of the Gospel. He gave them the example of real poverty. Thus, the precept of detachment from riches is obligatory for entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven
Tenths Commandment
