chp 6 Flashcards
what is the goal of the warm up
prepare participant physiology, psychologically and sociologically for the upcoming workout
what does the warm up set
the tone for the remainder of the class
the warm up prepares the participant physically by
-lubricating the joints
-gradually elevating the HR and breathing rate
-improving blood flow to the muscles
- increase body temperature
why do we gradually increase
physiological responses reduce the risk of injury and improves effectiveness of the workout by increasing neuromuscular coordinations and making the tissue less susceptible to damage
the warm up prepares the participant psychologically
-preparing for complex movements
-increasing motivation
- allowing the participant to try new things
-teaching the time to educate about posture and body alignment
the warm up prepares the participant socially
- providing a welcoming atmosphere
-postering group fitness
fostering a sense of belonging
how long is a warm up
8-10 min
what happens if we warm up too fast
there is a large oxygen deficit and the participant can feel extremely fatigued
what does the warm up allow
the body to adjust slowly for the ATP to start being produced through the aerobic energy system
rehearsal of movement
important in order to prepare the participant mentally and the will start to learn the moves and verbal cues
3 parts of a warmup
- gradually increase intensity
- rehearsal of movements
3 teaching them about spinal awareness
spinal awareness benefits
- correct postural align stabilizes the body
- increased stabilization reduces the risk of injury
- proper alignment improves joint mobility,ROM, and body ability to generate force
dynamic stretching
end point is not held, movement’s are smooth with the purpose of moving though a full ROM
scanning
reduce the risk of injury and increase participant success
what to look for while scanning
- are they able to follow movements
-are they physically able to do the movement
-are they having fun
-any signs of over exertions
