Cholinergic / Agonists Flashcards
Cholinergic / Agonists
- PSNS: rest / digest
- stimulates acetycholine neurotransmitters
Cholinergic / Agonists: MOA
mimic / facilitate acetylcholine (direct / indirect), increase GI tract / GU, saliva, slows heart and respiratory system
Cholinergic / Agonists: Indications
Alzheimer’s, need to speed up GI/GU system
Cholinergic / Agonists: Contraindications
GI/GU obstruction, parkinson’s
Cholinergic / Agonists: AE’s
dysrhythmias, BP change, bradycardia, hypotension, increased secretions
Cholinergic / Agonists: Interactions
additive or competitive
Cholinergic / Agonists: NC’s
VS, GI, GU, neuro
bethanechol
MOA: direct-acting cholinergic agonist
Indications: Urinary Retention & Bowel atony
Contraindications: Allergy, Obstrucion of GI/GU Tract hyperthyroidism, GI Ulcer, CAD, Parkinson’s Disease.
Adverse Effects: Syncope, Hypotension, GI upset
Interactions: Indirect acting cholinergics
Nursing Considerations: Assessment & Pt. Teaching
donepezil
MOA: Cholinesterase inhibitor (Indirect Cholinergic)
-This medication prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine by blocking cholinesterase. Acetylcholine stays around longer and produces an effect longer.
Indications: Alzheimer’s Disease-early phases
Contraindications: Allergy
Adverse Effects: GI upset & ulcers, drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, bradycardia, hypotension
Mild and usually resolve on own
Interactions: Anticholinergics, NSAIDs
Nursing Considerations: Assessments & Teaching
