salicylic acid (aspirin)
-treats: headaches
-AE’s:
GI: heartburn, nausea, GI bleeding, mucosal lesions/ulcers
Renal: reduction in creatinine clearance, acute tubular necrosis with renal failure
**Toxicity: manifests in tinnitus and hearing loss
ketorolac
- acetic acid derivative
- treats: moderate - acute pain; not chronic
AE’s:
GI: heartburn, nausea, GI bleeding, mucosal lesions/ulcers
Renal: reduction in creatinine clearance, acute tubular necrosis with renal failure
*renal impairment, GI pain, dyspepsia (indigestion)
ibuprofen
- propionic acid derivative
- treats: pain (RA, osteoarthritis, gout); fever
AE’s:
GI: heartburn, nausea, GI bleeding, mucosal lesions/ulcers
Renal: reduction in creatinine clearance, acute tubular necrosis with renal failure
*nausea, vomiting, headache
naproxen
-treats: pain, fever (w/ fewer SA and HTN meds)

cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2)
- *celecoxib
- COX-2 inhibitor
- treats: OA, RA, acute pain, ankylosing spondylitis, primary dysmenorrhea (lady cramps)

*HA, diarrhea, HTN
nabumetone
*enolic acid derivative
-treats: OA, RA

**decreases GI AE’s (more than other NSAIDs)
