Chemical digestion Flashcards
1
Q
What are macronutrients?
A
1Proteins,fats and carbs
2
Q
What are the smaller components?
A
Protein=Amino acid
Fat= Fatty acids and glyceerol
Carbs=glucose
3
Q
What are the macromolecule components used for
A
- Carbs- glucose= ATP to system to work
- Fat- fatty acids and glycerol= forming membranes and structure of the body
- Proteins- Amino acids= used to make other proteins
4
Q
What are the molcular scissors enzymes for the macromolecules?
A
- Protein= Protease
- Fat=Lipase
- Carbs= Amylase
5
Q
How does the chemical digestion.
A
- Bite into a burger andthe salivary glands make amylase
- It goes down the esophagus into the stomach where protease pepsin enzyme is made and realeased to break down proteins
- Into the small intestine where fats are broken down by the pancrease releasing protease, lipase and amylase to the small intestine
- If a patient has a problem with their pancreas it will lead to fatty stool as the fats can be broken down
- Brush borders release amylase and protease. For lipases to be successful a slash of bile is needed.
