๐งช Chemical Analysis Flashcards
What is present?
A metal is held into a Bunsen burner. The flame turns blue-green.
Copper II
What is present?
NaOH is added to a substance, followed by aluminium foil. It is then warmed gently. A pungent gas is produced.
Nitrate/Ammonium ions
What is present?
A substance is acidified and warmed gently. The gas produced decolourises acidified aqueous potassium (VII) manganate solution.
Sulfite ions
What is present?
NaOH is added. A green precipitate forms. In excess, it dissolves into a dark green solution.
Chromium (III)
What is present?
NaOH is added. A white precipitate forms that is insoluble in excess.
Calcium
What is present?
Aqueous ammonia is added. A very slight white precipitate formed.
Calcium
What is present?
A metal is held into a Bunsen burner. The flame turns orange-red.
Calcium
What is present?
Aqueous ammonia is added. A grey-green precipitate forms which is insoluble in excess.
Chromium (III)
What is present?
NaOH is added. A light blue precipitate is formed which is insoluble in excess.
Copper (II)
What is present?
NaOH is added. A white precipitate is formed which dissolves to form a colourless solution.
Zinc/Aluminium
What is present?
Aqueous ammonia is added. A white precipitate is formed that is insoluble in excess.
Aluminium
What is present?
A lighted splint is placed in a test tube. There is a squeaky pop sound.
Hydrogen gas
What is present?
A metal is held into the Bunsen burner. The flame turns red.
Lithium
What is present?
A metal is held into a Bunsen burner. The flame turns light green.
Barium
