Characteristics of Chelicerates (spiders)
Chitin exoskeleton, periodically moulted, segmented body, jointed paired appendages, sexes usually separate, species numbered in millions
3 main classes of Chelicerata
Merostomata - horseshoe crabs
Arachnida - scorpions, spiders, ticks, mites
Pycnogonida - sea spiders
