Characterizing Antibodies (GAMED) Flashcards
The 2 main antibodies involved in antibody-mediated immunity. Secreted by activated B (plasma) cells to bind to invading antigens
IgG and IgM
“first-line,” localized, defense in mucosal fluids (saliva, sweat, mucous, breast milk, GI secretions)
IgA
the antibodies embedded in the B-cell membrane, which makes them BCR
IgD
“first-lin,” localized, defense, located in mast cells and basophils in mucosal structures. They bind like allergens and induce huge inflammatory responses by release of cytokines (histamine, prostaglandins, leukotrienes, bradykinin)
IgE
It can be in pentameric form
IgM
Typically exist only as monomers
IgG, IgE, IgD
It can be in dimeric form
IgA
Which 2 are transferable to an offspring
IgG moves across the placenta to the fetus
IgA found in breast milk
Both confer “passive immunity”
