What is social stratification?
A system by which a society ranks categories of people in a hierarchy.
The Titanic is an example of stratification how?
People were ranked according to social class. People who were higher class were on the top decks and loaded the lifeboats first and as in that era of 1912 women and children were first.
What are the four traits of social stratification?
1) Is a trait of every society. 2)Carries from generation to generation. 3) Is universal, but variable. 4) Does not just involve inequality but beliefs.
What is Social Mobility?
A change in the hierarchy of social position.

It is a closed system allowing little change. It is based on ascription or birth.

It is a more open system allowing for mobility and it is based on Birth or achievement. Like when Kate Middleton Married Prince William. Kate a well off commoner achieved her status as princess Kate.

Social stratification based solely on merit .(knowledge, ability, Effort)

The degree of uniformity in a persons status across various dimensions of inequality.
What is structural social mobility?
A status shift in large numbers of people due more to changes in society than individual effort.

Cultural beliefs that justify a particular social arrangements.
