was Henry prepared for the role of king and how did people respond to the accession?
there had been 7 years between the death of his brother authur and his accession to the throne, in this time he would be schooled for the job, he would be well read. The accession of Henry was welcomed as a breath of fresh air, though it is important to note that he had no experience of government or public affairs.
how did the rule of Henry differ to that of his father?
he would have a dislike for government and would find writing and reading state papers, tedious and painful.
He would not mind intervening in government, even if decisions had already been made, this would mean that the quality of decision making would be hindered.

The significance of Thomas Wolsey?
he would become royal almoner, upon the accession of Henry, he would be known to Henry for his organisational abilities, he would organise a campaign against the French in 1513. Wolsey would do more than speak for the king, he would argue his case.
he would become archbishop for York and cardinal in 1514 and lord chancellor in 1515.
He would be given the role of papal legate in 1518, this would be significant as he would outrank the aging archbishop of Canterbury.
what was the legacy of Henry 7th?
money- he would leave £300,000
unpopular mechanism of extracting money
a consilliar form of government- Henry would inherit this council at the start of his reign, though it would only be for the short term.
Richard Fox would ensure the arrest of Empson and Dudley.
The council learned in law would be abolished in 1510, there would be the cancellation of many bonds and recognisances.

Marriage to Catherine of Aragon- he would marry Catherine on 11 June 1509, for the first few years the marriage was successful on both a personal and political level, though it would become frought what it would be obvious that Catherine could not produce a male heir.
re-establishing the nobility- during the reign of Henry 7th had frozen the nolobility out of court and would not allow them the typical pursuit of military glory.
many of the young men who Henry played sports with would be the new members of the nobility, though they would also suffer in the reign of Henry 8th, as his chief minister would be Thomas Wolsey, from 1514-1529.

he would be a decendent of Edward 3rd and the only English duke at the start of Henry’s, whom would be met with suspicion by Henry. He would be tried and executed, though the reason for this would remain observe,

he would differ to his father on his stance on war, for example he would head into a war with France, vast amounts of money would be spent to achieve small gains.
