Chapter 9 Nutrition Flashcards
What are micro nutrients?
Vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. These are non-energy, yielding nutrients that have improved regulatory functions and metabolic pathways.
What are macro nutrients?
Food substances required in large amounts to supply energy; including protein, carbohydrates, and that
What are minerals?
And organic, natural substances, some which are essential in human nutrition. There are two kind, major minerals, and trace minerals.
What are amino acids?

what are the two types of proteins and the difference between them?
Complete protein and incomplete protein
A complete protein provides all essential amino acids (i.e. meet, poetry, fish, eggs, and dairy, and hemp)
Incomplete protein is lacking one or more of the essential amino acids
what is the difference between glycemic index and glycemic load?
Glycemic index has a number from 0 to 100 that represents the rise and blood sugar after consuming food
Glycemic load similar but takes amount of food into account
What are Lipids and how many calories per gram?
Fats and their derivatives (trigylcerides, phospholipids, and sterols)
liver redistributes, triglycerides as what?
lipoproteins
What is LPL and what does it do?
Lipoprotein Lipase which is an enzyme that breaks down triglycerides into fatty acids
