What is chick-lit?
A literary genre that came to prominence in the 1990s. Chick lit features young, single, working women’s adventures (romantic and otherwise).
What is ethical porn ?
Pornography is produced under ethical conditions, meaning that performers are fairly paid and fully consenting and that their health and safety are protected.
What is feminist pornography?
Pornography is produced ethically and from a feminist perspective: that is, respectful to women, made to appeal to women, contesting gender inequality, and sexually empowering women.
What is Gamergate?
A 2014 controversy involving the harassment of high-profile women in the gaming industry, primarily through social media. The controversy called attention to continued conflicts within the gaming community over issues of sexism and racism
What is lad lit?
A literary genre is sometimes seen as the less successful “little brother” of chick lit. Lad lit highlights the coming to adulthood of young men who often grapple with self-doubt or confusion about the meaning of manhood.
What is lad magazine?
One of many magazines launched in the 1990s and after 2000 that focus on “sexy” photos of women (sometimes semi-nude) and typically “masculine” content concerning sports, alcohol, cars and consumer products, and sex.
What is new and old media?
New media Forms of media that emerged in the late twentieth century are digital, flexible, available on demand, nested, networkable, and highly interactive.
Old media in existence before the emergence of new media, including print media as well as film and broadcast media (television, radio) developed in the twentieth century
What is meant by partcipation?
In media studies, how groups participate in the consumption and creation of media, as opposed to how groups are represented within media
