These three factors, 1) person needs knowledge, time to develop, and internal desire to perform, 2) people are motivated, but they act for their individual reason, 3) and a persons strength when overused can be their weakness are the three factors of?
Principals of Motivation
How many needs are there to account for most of people’s behavior and what are those needs?
Five Hierarchy Needs (Go from beginning to the next in order) Basic, Safety, Belongingness, Ego, and Self Actualization.
______need is the need for food, shelter or personal property or increased salary?
Basic
_____need focus on security, protections and avoiding harm/risk. Such as medical insurance, retirement, pension plans
Safety
_____ need is the desire to feel accepted by fellow officers. Feeling of belonging to an organizational family. Usually joins the FOP in active participation.
Belongingness
_____ need is the need to achieving some special recognition or status….”officer of the month”.. special commendations/awards. This need usually drives the officer to find opportunities to show his competence.
Ego Status
_____need is the highest level in the need hierarchy. Needs assignments that are challenging and meaningful allowing him to be creative as possible.
Self-Actualization.
This theory states there are two categories that effect employees in different ways are; If there is dissatisfaction the employee emphasizes the environment in which they work for. If the employee is satisfied with their jobs, they become more productive and had stronger desire to help the organization is?
Motivation-hygiene Theory.
Management System #1 is?
Management has no confidence/trust in its personnel and does not involve them in any decision making (goals, rules/regs).
Management System #2 is?
Management has “some” confidence and trust in lower level police officers, but still maintains the master-servant relationship. Lower level makes “some’ less important decisions.
Management System #3 is?
PD management demonstrates substantial but incomplete trust between management and subordinates. More decisions are made at lower levels, but policies and high level decisions still remain in the hands of those at the top.
Management System #4 is?
PD Management clearly indicate complete confidence and trust in the subordinates by the top/middle management personnel. Decision making is dispersed through the dept. Comms flow up/down and sideways between other officers/peers.
This theory states the performance is a function of the officers ability, multiplied by the motivation itself?
Expectancy Theory
The five steps of Expectant Theory is?
1) discuss expectations to be known, 2) Make the work valuable (compliment orgs goals w/persons), 3) Make goal doable (see if subordinate feels about added responsibilities. Make realistic goals ask in advance what can be achieved), 4) Give regular feedback. 5) reward subordinate quick as possible upon their agreed expectations.
