Chapter 12: Management by Objective (MBO) Flashcards
This method of management is base on behavioral science assumptions. Where managers and their subordinates can identify areas of growth, set standards to be reached and measure the results against standards that have been set is?
Management By Objective (MBO)
MBO system has _______ part process.
7 part process
What are the parts of the MBO process
Recognizing communities values and department beliefs. 2) Implement with the dept mission. 3) Set a goal. 4) Obtain an Objective. 5) Set projects to meet objectives. Set an Action Plan for the projects. 6) Evaluation.
Under MBO goals may be viewed in these two ways?
Idealistic (perhaps impossible to achieve) and Measurable (goals within reach).
Under MBO “Objectives” should be?
Short term achievements, obtainable under a year. Also feasible and cost-effective.
Under MBO “Projects” are what?
Involve step-by-step process to reach each objective.
Under MBO “Action Plans” are?
Detailed steps of activities necessary for the completion of individual projects. It dictates responsibility and mutually acceptable target date.
Under MBO “Evaluation” is considered the most important step to determining the amount of success in the objectives. What are the three type of evaluation measurements
1) External measures-(Amount of success or failure achieving the objective/goals). 2) Internal measures-(Efficiency/effectiveness of the individual and issues that arise, why or why not it could not be overcome). 3) Research measure-( Insight to cause-effect, opinion to future program planning)
The MBO system is most effectively put into what “Grid Model” type and based on what “assumption Theory” mentioned in previous chapters?
In the “Team Management” style (9,9) and based on McGregor’s “Theory Y” assumption.
