Chapter 7: Diagnostic Testing Flashcards
What are the test to diagnose cardiovascular diseases?
Angiography, Cardiac Catheterization (Cath), Doppler Ultrasound, Echocardiography (Echo), Electrocardiography (ECG or EkG), and Holter Monitor.
What is an Angiography?
A radiographic (X-Ray) examination of blood vessels after injection of a contrast medium into the bloodstream.
What is a Cardiac Catheterization (Cath)?
A thin, hallow tube is inserted into a large blood vessel that leads to the heart to determine how well the heart is functioning.
What is a Doppler Ultrasound?
Sound waves measure blood flow in vessels.
What is an Echocardiography (Echo)?
Sound waves produce images of the heart.
What is an Electrocardiography (ECG or EKG)
Produces a recording of the electrical activity of the heart.
What is a Holter Monitor?
An abdominal heart rhythms are recorded with a compact ECG over a 24hr period.
