Academic History
The section of an educational report that provides the reader with relevant academic performance during the child’s school years.
Association or organization
Relating new information to other information and giving meaning to the information received.
Audiologist
A professional specializing in identifying, diagnosing, treating, and monitoring disorders of the auditory and vestibular system portions of the ear. This professional will be called on to evaluate a student’s hearing for possible impairments, and as a result of the findings, may refer the student for medical consultation or treatment
Auditory modality
The delivery of information through sound.
Behavioral consultant
The professional that works closely with the multidisciplinary team in providing direct services or consultation on issues involving behavioral and classroom management techniques and programs.
Classroom teacher
The member of the MDT who works to implement pre-referral strategies, as well as plans and implements any classroom techniques to help the student.
Educational diagnostician
A professional on the multidisciplinary team who administers a series of evaluations (including norm-referenced and criterion-referenced tests), observes the student in a variety of settings, and makes educational recommendations that get applied to the IEP as goals and objectives.
Expression
The output of information through vocal, motoric, or written responses.
Formal referral
The legal written formal process of initiating an evaluation of a child with a suspected disability.
Guidance counselor
The role of a school guidance counselor is to work with students and parents to help guide students’ academic, behavioral and social growth.
kinesthetic modality
The delivery of information through movement.
memory
The storage or retrieval process that facilitates the associational process to give meaning to information or help in relating new concepts to other information that might have already been learned
Occupational therapist
In schools, these professionals often evaluate a child who may be experiencing problems in fine motor skills and living and self-help skills.
Parents: MDT
The parent plays an extremely important role on the MDT in providing future input for the IEP, working closely with other members of the team, and carrying out, assisting, or initiating academic or management programs within the child’s home.
Reception
The initial receiving of information.
