Q

how is stimulus control developed?

A

a behavior is reinforced only in the presence of a particular SD

Q

Discriminative stimulus (SD)

A

the antecedent that brings the stimulus control to life, without it the behavior wouldnt occur

7
Q

what happens if a behavior is punished in the presence of one antecedent stimulus

A

the behavior will decrease and stop occurring in the future when that stimulus present

Q

3 term contingency

A

when the consequence is contingent on the occurrence of the behavior only in the presence of the specific antecedent stimulus called the SD

Q

Generalization

A

when the behavior occurs in the presence of stimuli that are similar in some ways to the SD that was present during stimulus discrimination training

Q

Stimulus class

A

group of stimuli that are similar to each other ex: if i want to write on the whiteboard I dont have to just use a black expo marker, i can also use a green one. the markers are apart of a stimulus class bc they all write

Q

discrimination training and spelling

A

If we see the letters d-o-g, we say “dog.” If we said “dog” after seeing any other combination of letters, our response would be incorrect. We learn to make correct reading responses through discrimination training

Q

discrimination training in the lab

A

*had the pigeon in a small experimental chamber
*the wall in front of the pigeon had a round disk (key) and 2 lights, green and red. When the pigeon pecked the key, it was given a small amount of food. The food reinforced the behavior of pecking the key.
*Holland and Skinner decided to bring the pigeons key pecking under stimulus control of the red light.
*turned on red light (SD), when pigeon pecked key it was given food. Sometimes the green light was turned on, and when pigeon pecked key it was not reinforced with food (extinction).
*With discrimination training, the pigeon is more likely to peck the key when the red light is on and less likely to press the key when the green light is on.

Q

An antecedent stimulus that is present when a behavior is not reinforced is called a(n)

17
Q

______ is when a behavior is more likely to occur in the presence of a specific antecedent stimulus.

A

stimulus control

18
Q

In _______ ___________ ___________ you reinforce a behavior when the SD is present and do not reinforce the behavior when the SΔ is present.

A

stimulus discrimination training

19
Q

When Alvaro asks for cookies and is told he can’t have any, he screams. When he screams, his mom eventually gives him a cookie. However, his dad never gives him a cookie when he screams. As a result, Alvaro is more likely to scream for a cookie when his mom is around.
What is the SD?
What is the S-delta?
What is the stimulus control and why?

A

SD: moms presence
S-delta: dads presence
Stimulus control: screaming because it is the behavior that is most likely to occur because of the SD (his mom)

20
Q

_______ takes place when a behavior occurs in the presence of stimuli that are similar to the SD.

A

generalization
