Affect
a display of feelings or state of mind
Delirium
an acute confusional change or loss of consciousness and perceptual disturbance, may accompany acute illness, and usually resolves when the underlying cause is treated
Delusion
a false belief that occurs when abnormal significance is attached to a genuine perception without rational or emotional justification
Dementia
a gradual progressive process, causing decreased cognitive function even though the person is fully conscious and awake; is not reversible
Dysarthria
distorted speech, including misuse of words; omitting syllables, letters, or words; transposing words
Illusion
misinterpretation of a true optical, auditory, tactile, or olfactory sensation
Insight
awareness of the reality of the situation
Judgement
ability to choose a logical course of action
Mental Status
aspect of mental health that involves emotional and cognitive functioning
Mood
a sustained emotion the patient is experiencing
Orientation
awareness of the objective world in relation to the self
Perception
awareness of objects through any of the five senses
Thought Content
what the person thinks - specific ideas, beliefs, the use of words
Thought process
the way a person thinks, the logical train of thought
