Anorectal fistula
an abnormal passage from inner anus or rectum out to the skin surrounding anus, created by chronic inflammation in the gastro-intestinal tract; usually originates from a local abscess
Constipation
decrease in frequency of bowel movements, defined as three or fewer stools per week, with difficult passing of hard, dry stools
Dyschezia
pain with defacation
Encopresis
persistent involuntary passing of stools into clothing (fecal incontinence) by a child older than 4
Fissure
painful longitudinal tear in tissue, for example in the superficial mucosa of anal region
Hemorrhoid
flabby papules of skin or mucous membrane in the anal region caused by a varicose vein of the hemorrhoidal
Melena
black or bloody stools
Pruritis
itching or burning sensation in the skin
Steatorrhea
excessive fat in the stool, as occurs in gastro-intestinal malabsorption of fat
Valves of Houston
one of three semilunar transverse folds that cross one-half the circumference of the rectal lumen
