Dissociation
Some seperation of emotions, thoughts, memories, or inner experiences from oneself, splitting from oneself
Dissociative Disorders
Involve disturbances in consciousness, memory or identity
Dissociative amnesia
Forgetting highly person information typically after some traumatic event

- Inability to recal important autobiographical info

Dissociative identity disorder
Actually have two or more distinct personalities within themselves who may wrestle for control f a person’s conciousness and for a time become the dominant personality
Dissociative identity disorder DSM 5 criteria
- Disruption of identity characterized by two or more distinct personality states, and causes discontinuity of self
- Recurrent gaps in recall of everyday events or dissociative amnesia
- Distress and impairment
- Not a normal part of religious or culture practice
Two-way amnesiac
The personalities are not aware of the existence of one another
One-way amnesiac
Some personalityies are aware of other personalities but the awareness is not always reciprocated
Mutually aware
Personalities are aware of other personalities and may even communicate with one another
Depersonalization/derealization disorder
Involves persistent experience of detachment form ones body as if in a dream state
Depersonalization/derealization Disorders DSM 5 criteria
- Presence of persistent experiences of depersonalization or derealization or both
- during periods of either, reality resting remains intact
- significant distress and impairment
