What is a group?
Two or more people with a common relationship.
What is a Team?
Small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose.
Are all Teams, also Groups?
Yes, But not all groups are teams.
What are the four types of Teams?
- Problem-Solving/Process Improvement Teams(5-12 employees).
- Self-Managed/Self-Directed Teams(10-15 people)
- Cross-Functional Teams(eg. Task Force, Committee)
- Virtual Teams(use tech)
What are Role Expectations?
How others believe a person should act in a given situation.
What is Role Conflict?
A situation where someone experiences multiple divergent role expectations- some of which may be in conflict.
What is Role Overload?
Too much is expected of someone- exceeding their capability.
What is Role Underload?
Too little is expected of someone- person feels they are not contributing.
What are Norms?
Acceptable standards of behaviour shared within a group.
What are the Five stages of Group Development?
- Forming- Characterized by uncertainty and anxiety
- Storming- Characterized by internal conflict
- Norming- Characterized by close relationships and cohesiveness
- Performing- Group is fully Functional
- Adjourning- Group is wrapping up activities.
What is process loss?
A loss in group productivity per member do to the problem of coordinating and motivating large groups.
What are the four categories that influence Team Effectiveness?
- Context
- Work Design
- Composition
- Process
