Chapter 5.1 Integrated Product and Process Development Flashcards
Show how the IPPD 1. Reduces time to market 2. Improves product quality 3. Reduces waste 4. Saves costs through complete integration of SE life-cycle processes
What does IPPD stand for?
Integrated Product and Process Development
What are the objectives of using IPPD?
Show how the IPPD
- Reduce time to market
- Improve product quality
- Reduce waste
- Save costs through complete integration of SE life-cycle processes
- Improve team communications
- Implement proactive risk process
- Make decisions based on timely IPT input
- Improve customer involvement
What does IPDT mean?
Integrated Product Development Team
What is an IPDT?
A multidisciplinary group of people who are collectively responsible for delivering a defined product or process.
What is IPPD?
The process of using an IPDT to simultaneously develop the design for a product or system and the methods for manufacturing the product or system.
What is meant by Concurrent Engineering
A management/operational approach to improve product design, production, operation and maintenance by developing environments where personnel from all disciplines work together and share data throughout the product life-cycle (cross-functional teams)
How is risk affected by IPPD and IPDTs?
Could introduce more risk as downstream activities initiate on assumption upstream activities meet their design and interface requirements.
ACTUALLY, the cross-functional product teams have been found to REDUCE RISK and provide better products faster
What are three types of IPDTs?
System Engineering integration team (SEIT)
Product Integration Team (PIT)
Product Development Team (PDT)
What team handles the external interface & system (in the system hierarchy)?
SEIT responsible for: Integrated system and processes external and program issues systems issues and integrity integration & audits of other teams
What team handles upper-level elements of the system hierarchy?
PITs responsible for:
Integrated h/w and s/w
deliverable item issues & integrity
Support to other teams (SEIT and PDT)
What team handles Lower-Level Elements (e.g. assemblies, components and parts) of the system hierarchy?
Product Development Team for: Hardware and software Product issues and integrity Primary participants are Design and Manufacturing Support other teams (SEIT and PIT)
What provisioning attributes must IPDT have?
Must have both the responsibility and authority to get the job done. Should be able to make key decisions and be prepared to justify its actions to others if required
List the steps necessary to organize and run an IPDT
Define the IPDT teams for the project
Delegate responsibility and authority to IPDT leaders
Staff the IPDT
Understand the team’s operating environment
Plan and conduct the “Kick-Off Meeting”
Train the team
Define the team vision and objectives
Have each team expand the definition of its job
Establish an expectation of routine Process Assessment and Continuous Improvement
Monitor team progress via measures and reports
Sustain and evolve the team throughout the project
Document team products
Close the project and conduct follow-up activities
