Q

Location and function of squamous tissue

A

Found at sites of diffusion and filtration. Line the air sacs of the lungs, forms the walls of capillaries, and lines the inside of vessels.

Q

Location and function of cuboidal tissue

A

Found in kidney tubes, covers ovaries, and ducts of certain glands. Function is secretion, absorption, and protection.

Q

Location and function of columnar tissue

A

Found in female reproductive tract, uterus, and portions of the digestive tract. Functions are protection, excretion secretion, and absorption

Q

What are the general characteristics/functions of connective tissues?

A

The general function of connective tissue is to bind other tissues together. The cells are loosely bound together and spread apart with extracellular material.

Q

What are the general characteristics/functions of muscular tissue?

A

The general function of muscle tissue is contraction. Composed of elongated cells that can shorten and thicken. Tissue is highly cellular and well supplied with blood vessels.

Q

What are the three types of muscular tissue? How are they alike? How are they different?

A

The 3 types of muscle tissue are skeletal, smooth, and cardiac. Skeletal and cardiac are striated. Smooth muscle is not. Skeletal muscle is voluntary; cardiac and smooth are involuntary. All composed of the same elastic fibers.

Q

What are the general characteristics/functions of Nervous tissue?

A

The general function of nervous tissue is to send chemical signals and impulses. It is found in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.

17
Q

What are the two major cells that make up nervous tissue? How are they different?

A

Neurons are nerve cells whereas neuroglia is nervous tissue. Neurons can receive and send information while neuroglia support and bind the components of nervous tissue.
