Chapter 5 skin stratum layers Flashcards
What is the top layer of skin
The epidermis
Is there hair follicle covered by the epidermis
Yes
The dermis includes
Hair. Oil glands. Blood vessel. Nerves and muscles that connect to hair
Hypodermics includes
A lot of the fat stored for energy
Includes blood vessels. Hair shaft
Arector pilli
Is the muscle that erects th hair
The basement membrane is between
The epidermis. And the dermis. It sits on the basal end of the epidermis
Keratinocytes
Squamous epithelial cells
Produced keratin
Melanocytes
For the color of the skin
Octopus shaped cells
Dendritic cells
For immune
Related to white blood cells and also octopus shaped
The bottom layer of the epidermis (stratified)is called the
Stratum basale
What is under the stratum basale
Basement membrane
Usually u see the epidermis is?
Connective tissue. ( dense irregular connective tissue )
Stratum basale cells are not squished and are
Cube shaped because they are rapidly producing cells and being pushed upwards
Stratum spinosum
This is above the stratum basale and is where the cells are being pushed upwards and therefore receive less nutrients by diffusion from blood vessels in the dermis.
These cells are like raisins
Spiny
Stratum granulosum
Over time the layer obove the stratum spinosum. The cells began to make keratin ( gardening protein) and lipid granules (waterproofing)
