Chapter 1 Flashcards
Cardiovascular system
Blood vessels transport blood which carries oxygen carbon dioxide nutrients etc. the heart pumps blood through the blood vessels
Heart and blood vessels are the organs
Digestive system
Breaks down food( catabolism) into absorbable units that enter the blood for distribution to body cells. Indigestible foods are eliminated as feces
Endocrine system
Glands secrete hormones that regulate processes such as growth, reproduction level, and nutrient use (l
Integumentary system( also know. As skin)
Forms the external body covering and protect deeper tissues from injury. Synthesizes vitamin D and houses skin receptors (pain , pressure) and sweat and oil glands
Muscular system
Allows manipulation of the environment, locomotion and facial expression. Muscle maintain posture and produce heat ( shiver
Nervous system
This fast acting system of the body responds to internal and external changes by turning on certain muscles and glands.
Lymphatic system/ immune
Hey help pick up any fluid leaked out any body blood vessels or tissues and return the fluid to the blood supply. And forces fluid to the spleen for cleaning.
Respiratory system
Helps bring air into lungs oxygen is picked up by the blood supply and releases carbon dioxide as exhale waste
Reproductive system
Sperm and eggs are produced both doing so using estrogen and testosterone. Both people produce these hormones. Females produce mammary glands
Skeletal system
Protects and supports body organs. And provides a framework that muscles use to cause movement. Blood cells come from within bones ( bone marrow) bones store minerals
Urinary system
Eliminates waste from the body. Especially nitrogen. Regulates how much water acid and bases and ions are exerted or retained in the body
