Chapter 5 - Genetics Flashcards
What is an allele?
An allele is one chromosome of a Genotype.
What is a Dominant Allele?
A dominant allele is an allele that means no matter what the other allele is, it’s phenotype will be showed.
What is a recessive allele?
A recessive allele is when the phenotype only shows when another recessive is present.
What is a heterozygous pair?
It is when there is both and dominant and recessive allele present in the genotype.
What is a homozygous dominant pair.
It is a genotype when both of the alleles are dominant.
What is a homozygous recessive pair.
It is when both alleles are recessive in a genotype.
In the cross of 2 heterozygous parents. What is the ratio of homozygous recessive offspring, and what is that ratio called?
3:1It is called Mendelian Ratio.
How many pairs chromosomes are there?
23
What are the gonads?
The are they organs that produce sex cells
What are the Gamates?
The sex cells
What is meiosis?
It is when 2n breaks into n.
What is another word for 2n in the sperm or eggs.
Diploid
What is another word for the split sperm or egg?
Haploid
What is the genotype of a female
XX
What is the phenotype of a male?
XY
