Chapter 1 - Cell Review Flashcards
What is D.N.A.?
A double helix mad of nucleotides.
It passes on traits and is where we get ours from.
It has codes for proteins.
Provides random mutation for species variation.
What is the Nucleus?
An organelle that contains D.N.A.
What are nuclear pores?
An opening in nuclear envelope, allowing movement.
What is the Nuclear Envelope (Membrane)?
The membrane that surrounds nucleus.
What is Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum?
Provides detoxification.
Produces lipid and steroid based hormones.
What is Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Covered in ribosomes.
What is Endoplasmic Reticulum?
An organelle that is dived into rough and smooth ER.
What are Ribosomes?
Site of protein synthesis.
Free floating ribosomes make proteins for the cell.
Ribosomes on the ER make proteins to be screated.
What are Polysomes?
They are a string of ribosomes that can mass produce proteins from the same strand of D.N.A..
What is a Transport Vesticle?
Transports protein from the E.R. To Golgi Apperatus.
What is the Golgi Apperatus?
It stores proteins, refines and activates it.
What is the Secretory Vesicle?
It transports protein from Golgi Apperatus to Cell Membrane.
What is the Cell Memebrane?
It lets certain things in and out.
It’s a phospholipid bilayer.
Secretion is called exocytosis.
What is a Lysosome?
It breaks down what came into the cell.
It is responsible for cell suicide or autolysis.
What is Mitocondria?
It is the power house of the cell.
O2 + G > cellular respiration > CO2 + ATP + H2O
