chapter 5 & 8 Flashcards
What are the bones that interlock?
Example: sutures in the skull
Synarthrodial
Made up of a great deal of fibrous tissue, has ligaments & interosseous membranes that hold joints together.
Syndesmosis
Has no direct union between the bone ends & allows free motion
Synovial
What holds bones together?
Ligaments
In what plane does flexion/extension occur?
Sagittal
In what plane does abduction/adduction occur?
Frontal
When one bone moves on another causing motion
Osteokinematic motion
What is a hard & abrupt limit to joint motion
example: terminal elbow extension
Bony end feel
A hard leather like limitation of motion that has a give; which occure in full normal joint motion of the shoulder
Capsular end feel
Has a lack of mechanical limitation to joint ROM; occurs when motio. Is limited by pain & there is disruption of soft-tissue constraints
Empty end feel
When each joint surface I s concave in one direction and convex in the other
example: cmc join of the thumb
Saddle joint
When the concave joint surface moves in the same directionas the joint motion & the convex surface moves opposite of the direction of the moving body segment
Convex-concave law
