Retention: preservation and institutionalization of selected organization forms

Under high uncertainty, organizations imitate others in the same institutional environment
What is an institutional environment?
Norms/values from stakeholders that organizations try to follow to please the stakeholders
What are the 2 institutional views of an organization?
Technical: day-to-day, governed by norms
Institutional: visible to the outside public, governed by external environment
What is institutional similarity?
emergence of common structures, approaches, behaviours among organizations in same field
