Drugs used to treat infections caused by Mycobacterium bacterial species
Bacillus
Rod-Shaped bacteria
Granuloma
Any small nodular aggregation of inflammatory cells, usually characterized by clearly delimited boundaries, as found in TB.
Isoniazid
The primary and most commonly prescribed tuberculostatic drug
Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis
TB that demonstrates resistance to two or more drugs
Slow acetylator
Someone with a genetic defect that causes a deficiency in the enzyme needed to metabolize isoniazid, most widely used TB drug, thus reducing the rate of metabolism of the drug
Tubercle
The characteristic lesion of tuberculosis; a small, round, grey, translucent granulomatous lesion, usually with a cheesy consistency in its interior.
Tubercle bacilli
Rod-shaped TB bacteria
TB
Any infectious disease caused by species of Mycrobacterium. Usually M.tuberculosis.
