What is consciousness?
Consciousness = Arousal + Awareness
What are the types of awareness?
Low awareness (inattention, mindlessness)
High awareness (mindfulness, controlled processing)
What device is used to monitor brain electrical activity?
EEG (Electroencephalogram)
What are the different brain wave patterns and their frequencies?
Beta: 13-24 cps (alert, awake)
Alpha: 8-12 cps (relaxed, drowsy)
Theta: 4-7 cps (light sleep)
Delta: <4 cps (deep sleep)
What are circadian rhythms?
24-hour biological cycles regulating sleep, alertness, hormone secretion, and body temperature.
How does jet lag affect circadian rhythms?
Traveling east (shorter days) disrupts sleep more than traveling west (longer days).
