chapter 3.4 Flashcards
What are binocular cues?
Depth perception cues that rely on both eyes, such as retinal disparity and convergence
What are monocular cues?
Depth perception cues from a single eye, including linear perspective, texture gradient, aerial perspective, and relative size.
What is perceptual constancy?
The ability to perceive objects as stable despite changes in size, shape, brightness, hue, or location in space.
What are optical illusions?
Discrepancies between visual appearance and physical reality.
What is the Müller-Lyer illusion?
A visual illusion where two identical lines appear to be different lengths due to arrow-like endings.
What is the Ponzo illusion?
Two horizontal lines of the same length appear different because of converging background lines.
What is the Poggendorff illusion?
A diagonal line appears misaligned when interrupted by a solid object.
What is the Zollner illusion?
Parallel lines appear to be slanted due to intersecting short diagonal lines.
